Ohio kitchen designer, Kelly Zamonski, warmed up this black & white family kitchen by playing off the original 1850s pine floor. Echoing built-ins of days past on the refrigerator wall Kelly designed imposing cabinets for food storage and the microwave — plus an appliance garage below – with handy book shelves in between. The Plain & Fancy cabinets (Vintage - Arctic white distressed finish) have a furniture feel from the flush toekicks to the beefy crown molding. Countertops are black Impala granite; faucet is from the Whitehaus Collection. Viking ovens. A jackpot of refined details abound: end panels on island and perimeter cabinets match the door styles. There is a cleverly inset spice shelf in a normally lost corner the right of the cook top. The 4″ x 4″ tumbled marble backsplash beneath solid-door upper cabinets is limited to the cooktop backsplash. On the adjacent cabinet wall a barnwood counter replaces the granite and wood planking is used instead of tile. The change in materials, together with glass-front cabinets, create a serving buffet with an opportunity for dish display above it. Non-matching vintage chairs are used around the pine table for an extra helping of hominess.
